Well, the second episode does pick up the pace a little. There was much more in the way of story here and less of trying to cram in origins into one hour. Jaime also comes across as much more likable. So does her sister. I think this has more to do with the writer of the episode, whose name escapes me at the moment. He's the show runner on the critically acclaimed
Friday Night Lights and he has been brought into
Bionic Woman to help get it in shape. There are some nods to the old show.
Jaime's run-in with a man named Steve in the bathroom.
The 70's car they were driving in.
And did anyone catch that we now have a bionic sound effect? It's not consistent, like in the early episodes of
The Six Million Dollar Man, but it's there.
There were elements of the first
SMDM episode, "Population: Zero" and the
BW episode, "The Vega Influence".
Hell, we even got a Orville Reddenbocker commercial, circa 1978.
A much stronger episode and it looks like the numbers held, for the most part. Entertainment Weekly listed the first episode as 15 in the ratings. It'll be interesting to see how it fared this week. It still placed second for the night.
Now, as soon as I'm up for it, I'm going to offer my thoughts on how this show could easily fit into the whole canon (Gasp! That ugly word!) of the original series.
