Rift Updatery

Just recorded a Roundtable episode on Sherlock Holmes with Andrea as co-host that will premiere this Tuesday.  It features authors Laurie R. King and Kevin Lauderdale (now with the brand, spanking new LJ - [info]kevinlauderdale  -  go check it out).  We had a great time talking about what makes the character what he is for so many people.  We rambled on about the various versions we've seen on screen (including a mention of the God-awful Tom Baker one).  We conjectured about what we can expect to see in the new version featuring Robert Downey Jr.  We even got a chance to work in some talk on the two musicals, much to Andrea's and Laurie's chagrin.

It's all new, all free, and all easy to access at the new home of The Chronic Rift podcast episodes - http://chronicrift.mevio.com.  Make sure you have your iTunes and Zune feeds updated by visiting the website.  And then when you're done, you can tell us how wonderful or how insane we were at http://www.chronicrift.com.

It's an All New Episode!

 We've produced an all-new review episode just for you.  (Really, just for you, don't worry about the others reading this, they can listen to the old ones.)  In this episode we're looking at the recent Rifftrax event, the Galileo and Star Trek exhibits at the Franklin Institute, the Galaxy Rangers DVD collections, and a bunch of baseball blogs.  Plus, in addition to the usual review segments, Orenthal referees a grudge match between the Transformers and G.I. Joe.  It's all here, just for you at - http://thechronicrift.podomatic.com/player/web/2009-08-23T18_23_54-07_00.  Enjoy!

Bill Corbett of MST3K Fame Interviewed

</div>
</div>

</div>
So, I make up for missing out on one interview by coming up with one as good if not better.  Bill Corbett, primarily known as the second voice of Crow T. Robot on Mystery Science Theater 3000, sits down with Andrea to discuss his latest endevour, Rifftrax.  The crew from Rifftrax are going to be doing a live performance to the movie Plan 9 from Outer Space.  He talks about the details of the event as well as his days on MST3K.  Plus, we actually got some voice mail (and by some, I mean one) which we listen and comment on.  You can listen with the player above, check us out on iTunes, or visit us on our homepage.  Enjoy.

The Chronic Rift Plays Match Game

Keith, Andrea, Orenthal, and Dan Persons are the stars. Julio Angel Ortiz and Ethan Parker are the contestants. I'm your host as we play Match Game.  Despite the early misgivings on the part of most involved, I think it turned out pretty good.  Take a listen and tell me what you think - http://thechronicrift.podomatic.com/.

Two Fun Nights on Skype

 So, the past two nights have been fun with Skype.

Thursday night was spent with my D&D campaign, sending them off on a new adventure.  It's actually not a new adventure; in fact, it's quite old, but they don't realize it yet as they kind of stumbled into it.  It was fun though and I'm looking forward to playing in two weeks time.

Last night was another recording of The Chronic Rift.  We played Match Game with two of our listeners and I think we managed to live up to the old show and then some.  You can determine it for yourself by listening to the episode when we release it this Monday.

Sue will be glad to see me tonight as I've been hooked into a headset for the last two nights.  ;)

Shore Leave 31 Panel on The Chronic Rift

 [info]kradical and I were at Shore Leave this past weekend and we recorded a panel discussion on the new Trek movie with author Greg Cox and fan Karen Mitchell Carothers.  It was a lot of fun and I learned a few things in doing remote recording that I hope to take with me to my next convention.  Here's the link to the episode, take a listen, and then stop by the Rift website and let us know what you thought of it.

The Chronic Rift on Facebook

 We've actually been on Facebook for some time with a fan page, but this is an actual page that looks like a regular entry and everytime we post something everyone will get the notice on their feeds, so we don't have to spend time with messaging people or creating events to get attention.  If you are a fan of the show already, please friend us at the new page.  I can't adjust the URL to be more manageable until we get 100 fans.  You can find the new page here - http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Chronic-Rift/125872935099?ref=nf

You can expect a new episode this Monday as the "Summer of the Rift" continues.  Rockne O'Bannon, creator of Farscape, Alien Nation, and seaQuest, sits down with Orenthal and myself to discuss the Farscape comic series and his upcoming pilot projects.  Also, we'll be releasing the Rift sampler episode that was submitted to the Parsec Award committee.  It's actually a nice little ten minute piece that gives new listeners an idea of what we are.

Now a Parsec Award Nominated Program!

 The Chronic Rift has been nominated for a 2009 Parsec Award for Best Infotainment Program!  To say I am stoked is an understatement.  The show is less than a year old and it's being recognized by its podcasting peers.  Sweet!  If you haven't listened to an episode yet, check out what all the fuss is about at chronicrift.com.  The winners will be announced at Dragon Con this September.  Looks like I have to book a flight.

Whatever does happen, I want to thank Keith DeCandido, Orenthal Hawkins, Andrea Lipinski, Judy Furnari, David Finnerty, Jay Smith, David Alexander McDonald, Derrick Ferguson, Rhymephile, and Dan Persons for their time and effort in getting the show to this point.  We're going to be wrapping up our first year in August and we look forward to bringing the best in science fiction, fantasy, horror, and comic art for year two in September.

An All New Episode

 While it didn't come out quite the way the LJ-less Lipchick and I envisioned it, we still managed to put together a pretty good look at recent young adult novels available for your teens to read this summer.  You can find the episode on the website - http://www.chronicrift.com - or on iTunes.

Wow!

This and That

  • Season sets of Scrubs are less than $20 at the BJ's Warehouses in the New York area.
  •
  • Anyone ever been to the Eveready Diner?  We had one open up just five minutes away from my home.  I may have found my new home away from home.
  •
  • Two new episodes of the Rift are now available.  There's a review episode where we grok about Spock and Star Trek in general, and there's a music episode featuring music from those who are geekily inclined.  Check them out at the Rift website - http://www.chronicrift.com.  Take a moment to sign up and hang out in the forums.
  •
  • Have a happy Memorial Day weekend, those of you who celebrate!

We Got Reviewed!

The Chronic Rift was reviewed by the podcast Edgy Reviews from That Podcast Show.  They did a very fair and even handed review and have given me something to think about in taking the show forward.  You can check it out at here.

Episode Ten Ready to Go!

In our first double digit episode, Orenthal ([info]popfiend ) and John ([info]drewshi ) talk Knight Rider despite Andrea's best efforts to stop them.  Also, Andrea warms everyone up for this year's Razzie Awards.  In the review department, Keith ([info]kradical ) and Derrick ([info]dferguson ) review Dollhouse and Gran Torino respectively.  Andrea offers a list of alternate teen vampire literature and David ([info]wyldemusick ) rants about the glut of comic book "events".  Plus, Keith interviews Michael Burstein ([info]mabfan ) about the release of his anthology, I Remember the Future.  Listen for your chance to win a copy of the anthology.

Come aboard, we're expecting you at iTunes, Podomatic, or the Rift's own website.

Episode Nine Right on Time

"In the not too distanct future way down in Deep Thirteen,
Doctor Forrester and TV's Frank were hatching an evil scheme.
"

For ten seasons, Joel, Mike, and the bots were tortured with the worst Hollywood had to offer, much to the delight of the viewing audience. Now, twenty years later, the show is a cult classic with DVDs being released and the tapes still being circulated. Keith and Andrea host this Roundtable discussion with Cinefantastique's Dan Persons and Frank Conniff, TV's Frank. Plus, Jay Smith tells us why zombies are "My Guilty Pleasure".

You can find this episode on Podomatic, iTunes, or the Rift's own homepage.

Very Satisfied

Just finished up recording another episode of The Chronic Rift a short time ago.  This time, the Lipchick and [info]kradical  hosted a Roundtable discussion on the 20th anniversary of Mystery Science Theater 3000 with Frank Conniff, TV's Frank.  We had a great time and I think this is one of our best episodes yet.  Plus, I didn't sing.
