So I didn't get to march in the parade yesterday. There was too much snow and I managed to get sick again on Friday. I was very sad about this as I marched last year and had a great deal of fun. There are basically three sections to our school in the parade - the current student body, the alumni, and the Emerald Society. I sort of drift back and forth among the sections as I'm a teacher, an alumni, and have attended several of the society's meetings. I was also looking forward to taking the bus with the kids this year and avoiding the booze cars of the Metro North.
Lesson here - flu shots do work. This is the first year in many I didn't receive one and the result is a series of colds. Now, one can argue that I get them from the kids, but Eddie has only been sick once and Mikey has only been suffering from ear infections, which was common for Eddie and myself at that age. Yes, I do teach in a school, but I never suffered like this last year.
Face it kids, flu shots work. Don't buy into the hype that they are in actuality alien DNA being forced on us by our government to weed out the weak from the strong so that we can build our next army to invade Iran.
As a result, I didn't have any corned beef and cabbage - an Irish/American staple as opposed to being simply an Irish one. As one guy from Ireland pointed out, they don't have corned beef in Ireland at all. The closest thing would be Spam. I did enjoy the leftover homemade macaroni and cheese with broccoli though. Maybe today.
Also as a result, I didn't go out with Eddie and play in the snow. I did go out briefly to give Sue a break in the shoveling as we dug out the cars, but I could only do that for so long before things started spinning. It was interesting to see how quickly the snow had already begun to melt. I'm hoping it's all cleared out by the end of the week. (We got about a little over a foot here in Brewster.)
I love eBay. I know there are stories of people getting burned on it, but I never have when it comes to buying things. I did get burned once when selling something. I had some comics up for auction and the winning bidder never returned any of my emails. I tried for one month to contact the person. I sent a final appeal, saying I was about to re-list. As soon as I re-listed, I got an email stating that payment had been made. Well, he had every opportunity to pay, so I sent back the payment and he proceeded to give me negative feedback - the only one I've ever received.
Anyway, I just purchased seasons three, four, and five of
The Tomorrow People for only $19.00.
On Amazon it sells for over fifty bucks! So, the weekend wasn't a total wash.
