RIP

Ford Rainey

For me, Ford Rainey will always be Steve's and Jaime's step father, but he also played the president in Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.

Les Moonves is a Friggin Idiot!

From Zap2It.com:

"In her first solo address to reporters as CBS' entertainment president, Nina Tassler was left with the chore of explaining to the Television Critics Association press tour gathering why her network liquidated several buzzworthy shows in favor of "The Ghost Whisperer" and "Close to Home."
"'Joan of Arcadia' being cancelled was a big disappointment for all of us, me personally," Tassler says. "We lost probably 24 percent of our audience the middle of the first year. We just never got them back. We went through massive marketing campaigns, promotional campaigns. We just couldn't get the audience back."

For its second season, "Joan" averaged only 7.96 million viewers. There was also an impression that the drama became creatively muddled in its second season, not really finding a cohesive direction until it was too late. After earning a number of major Emmy nominations as a new series -- including nods for star Amber Tamblyn and as outstanding drama -- "Joan" nearly dropped off the awards radar this year.

Joking with reporters at the CBS upfront presentation in May, Viacom and CBS bigwig Les Moonves justified the decision to go with the Jennifer Love Hewitt vehicle "Whisperer" over "Joan" by declaring that a young woman talking to ghosts would bring in a younger audience than a young woman talking to God. Tassler refused to echo Moonves' contention."

And I've still never forgiven him for canceling Now & Again.

James Doohan, RIP

I heard this on the twelve o'clock news on the radio. This was not unexpected. He fought a long, hard battle and from all I've heard he kept a good nature through it all. As someone who got to include Scotty in my SCE novella "Paradise Interrupted", this is especially sad.

Two of my childhood icons have passed on in recent months, the other being Frank Gorshin. Tonight I'm going to watch a first season Trek episode as I just got the DVD set. Any suggestions which one would be a good Scotty one?
